This season, Howth Castle Cookery School is serving up a packed calendar of hands-on cooking experiences designed to inspire everyone from complete beginners to passionate home cooks.
At the heart of this summer’s programme is the hugely anticipated Steak Night on the BBQ masterclass — a celebration of flame cooking, great produce, and relaxed summer entertaining. Guests will learn how to cook the perfect steak over fire, master marinades and rubs, explore side dishes that elevate any barbecue, and pick up chef tips on achieving restaurant-quality results at home. This immersive evening promises to be one of the highlights of the summer calendar.
For seafood lovers, the school’s renowned Catch and Cook experience continues to offer one of the most unique culinary outings on the east coast. Inspired by Howth’s location beside a fishing harbour, participants get to enjoy the full fishing experience of heading out by sea to the back of Ireland’s Eye to catch some local fish like mackerel, pollock or ray. After, participants head back to the cooking school where they learn to to prepare and cook beautifully fresh seafood as well as learning practical kitchen skills from expert chefs in the stunning surroundings of Howth Castle Estate.
Those looking for a lighter daytime experience can enjoy the school’s popular Morning Classes, ideal for food enthusiasts who want to spend a few relaxed hours in Howth Castle and grounds, learning new techniques, seasonal recipes, and entertaining ideas. These sessions combine practical learning with a warm social atmosphere and plenty of tasting along the way.
Summer also brings a full range of BBQ Masterclasses, where guests can move beyond burgers and sausages to explore everything from smoked meats and grilled seafood to vibrant summer salads and outdoor feasting ideas. Whether you’re hosting garden parties or simply upgrading your family barbecue, these classes are designed to build confidence and creativity around the grill.
For anyone with a sweet tooth, the school’s Pastry Workshops offer the perfect indoor escape. From elegant tarts and buttery pastries to seasonal desserts and baking techniques, participants can enjoy a hands-on experience led by skilled pastry chefs in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
After every class, participants get to dine on what they have created in our beautiful Garden Room or Butler’s Dining Room with a glass of wine, beer or beverage of choice.
Younger food lovers are also catered for with the ever-popular Summer Teen Camp, where aspiring young chefs can learn essential cooking skills, build confidence in the kitchen, and discover a love for food in a fun and supportive setting. The camp has become a firm favourite for families looking for an engaging and creative summer activity.
As the evenings stretch longer, the school’s much-loved Supper Club returns with seasonal menus, relaxed dining experiences, and an opportunity for guests to gather around the table and celebrate exceptional local produce in a unique setting steeped in history.
From flame-grilled steak nights to seafood feasts, pastry creations to teen camps, this season’s summer programme offers something for every appetite — and every level of cook.
